5th Anniversary podcasts – D-Styles and Shortkut live in Shibuya pt 2

Ping Pong famo

This is part two of the D-Styles and Shortkut live in Shibuya video podcast. Make sure you check the post for part 1 for the full fat low down on what this is all about.

Part 2 is more of the same, with the added bonus of a guest appearance from Japanese scratch prodigies Sara and Ryusei. As I mention in the original post, watch for their faces as D gets loose on the electro beat. This footage was filmed by DJ Moyma at the Vestax Extravaganza battle in Shibuya, Tokyo, December 2007.

As with previous multi-part video podcasts we’ve done, this one is split into two posts, each with one video and made live consecutively. Subscribers should have the files downloading to their computers right now, and those who aren’t subscribed yet can do so with the widgets on the left or by clicking on the RSS icon in the address bar. Those still too lazy to do the whole podcasting ting can grab the direct link below.

Once again both the videos are in .mp4 format, optimised for iPod and iTunes viewing but fully playable on any players and platforms, as long as you have the right codecs. So if you get an error, just check your updates. This second video is 69mb in size.

For more info on D-Styles and Shortkut peep the myspaces, and for more on Vestax head over to their official site.

Thanks go to D and Short for their time, Moyma for the camera work, and Reishi at Vestax for help in making this happen. And a massive thanks and big up also goes to Ed Rooth for his editing work. These videos will be the last ones Ed edits for us for a while as he knuckles down and gets busy with real life. Since joining the TTR family last year Ed’s put in some amazing work with the video podcasts we’ve been releasing this year, so a massive thanks goes out to him and he’ll be sorely missed while he’s gone.

Stay tuned for the interview which will go live in one week, then we resume our regular re-run of the original shows and I’ll also be putting in another appearance with a more regular podcast towards the end of the month.

5th anniversary podcasts – D-Styles and Shortkut live in Shibuya pt 1

D-Styles and Shorkut

True to the saying ‘better late than never’, I’m very happy to bring to you the last part of Turntable Radio’s 5th Anniversary podcast series. I’ll spare you the details of the delay, but let’s just say that 2008 has been an interesting year for me so far and my world trip didn’t help with making things happen on time as they say.

Still we’re there, and so we take a break from the re-run of the original 70 shows presented by Mr. Trick to bring you a very special series of videos featuring D-Styles and Shortkut. Altogether there are 5 videos spread over 2 events – a live showcase as part of the 2007 Vestax Extravaganza battle that took place in Shibuya, Tokyo, last december, and an interview with D-Styles and Shortkut conducted the same weekend in Tokyo. The interview is all the more special as D-Style and Short were the first people to be interviewed by Trick 5 years ago (well actually nearly 6 now!) when the show first started. This updated interview sort of links back to those humble beginnings and brings us full circle 5 years on, as we continue bringing you fresh new music from the tablist world on the regular.

We’re starting this week with two videos from the live showcase. As I mentioned this was filmed during the Vestax Extravaganza battle held in Shibuya in December 07. The footage was filmed by DJ Moyma (big up your bad self sir!) and unfortunately we couldn’t get a separate audio recording so it gets a little ‘rough’ in certain parts, but I think you’ll agree it’s worth it to see two of the finest tablists put on a, pretty much unrehearsed, fine musical showcase. Also look out in part 2 for a guest appearance from Sara and Ryusei, the two Japanese prodigy kids that blew up all over youtube and the internet in the last year. I particularly like the look on their face as D lets loose on the electro beat!

This first video is 53mb in size.

That’s about it, video 2 will follow in a few minutes.

Stay tuned for part 2 people and the interview goes live in one week, then we resume our regular re-run of the original shows and I’ll also be putting in another appearance with a more regular podcast towards the end of the month.

5th year anniversary podcasts – Ken One live at Module, Shibuya 2008

TTR 5th logo

As we announced back in the December 07 podcast, this year marks the fifth anniversary of Turntable Radio, and to celebrate the occasion we’ve put together a series of celebratory podcasts regrouping all sorts of things which have made and continue to make TTR what it is.

Over the next 7 months we’ll be releasing these out, including a double show presented by myself and Mr Trick which will look back onto our respective times as TTR presenters, the music, the good and the bad. Other things to look out for include some additional video podcasts, which have unfortunately been delayed due to technical fuck ups, as well as another special Japanese session and some other bits we aren’t going to tell you about just yet. Believe us though, it’s going to be worth sticking around.

So to start it all off, we look at my current country of residence, Japan, and Ken-One. The man should need no further introduction now, as I’ve featured his music in the last few shows and he was responsible for helping put together our first Japanese session back in september 07.

Ken has been nice enough to give us some footage of a recent showcase of his, held at Module nightclub in Shibuya, last month. We’ve edited it down and are podcasting it as a video, as we did with the CoC 2 videos last summer. As we did then, the file has been optimised for iPod and iTunes viewing, but will also work on any other device that can play video files and with most players on a PC or a Mac. See the recommendations and specs below if you’re having a problem.

Unfortunately, as it’s a live recording, the sound is a little distorted in places but it takes nothing from Ken’s performance, which we hope you’ll enjoy as much as we did.

Once again massive thanks go out to Ken One for hooking this up. A big thanks also goes out to Ed Rooth for editing the video and coming up with the fresh new intro.

The next installment in the 5th year anniversary series will likely be a ‘normal’ podcast of sorts from myself, with a bag of fresh new music as well as a short selection of favourites. After that we’ll be airing the double show from Trick and myself, sometime around the first two weeks of April.

Until then, sit back and enjoy.

Subscribers to our podcasts/feed should already have the file on their computers, or on its way. Those not yet subscribed, you can do so easily and using any number of podcatching programs, from iTunes to Odeo, by clicking on the icons located on the top right hand corner of the site. You can also access the feed directly via http://feeds.feedburner.com/turntableradio and find us on iTunes, in the podcast directory under Turntable Radio. Lastly, there is also a direct download link at the end of this post.

File is 119mb, .m4v format – best viewed in Quicktime and on iTunes and iPods.

The file will also play with Windows Meda Player, Divx player and most other video players on both PC and Mac.

‘Cuts of Culture 2 – The Podcasts’: Week 2a

CoC 2 week 2

Rolling into week 2 we bring you fresh new music and live action from Germany and the USA. Noisy Stylus start things off with a video of their 2006 Musikmesse live showcase, and then Dq (Animal Crackers/Glue) takes us on a little musical trip with an exclusive track made especially for the compilation.

Noisy Stylus – Live at Musikmesse 2006
This video was filmed (by none other than the man like Lamont) at Musikmesse 2006, Germany and Europe’s main DJ gear show. As far as I know this is Noisy Stylus’ last showcase and likely to be the last one in a while as the various members of the crew have all moved on to new projects and horizons.
The showcase itself features a selection of tracks from the crew’s debut album ‘Table Manners’ performed live. If you’ve never heard the album than this is a perfect introduction, and if you have then this is the chance to see the album tracks performed live, complete with variations and changes from the studio versions. Noisy Stylus also feature on the Cuts of Culture 2 compilation mix.
The album is still available on 2xLP and CD from all good record shps. For more info on the crew and their multitude of past and present projects head over to noisystylus.com. And look out for the week 9 podcasts which will feature some very exclusive Noisy Stylus related downloads.
The file is 80mb, .m4v video format – best viewed in Quicktime and on iTunes and iPods.
