CoC week 9

For the last week of our ‘Cuts of Culture 2′ podcast series we’ve dug into the archives of TTR and decided to bring you a project which we’ve discussed before (and partly aired) but which has never seen the light of day in full. As such we’ve decided to put it out there for the whole world to enjoy. And we hope you do. The project in question is the remix EP of the Noisy Stylus debut album ‘Table Manners’. It features 5 remixes (3 of which we’ve aired before) from a range of artists, all with loose or close ties to the tablist scene. In addition to this remix EP we’re also podcasting our last video, this time a compilation of trailers and teasers for upcoming/current projects by people who we’ve showcased in the podcast series.

Cuts of Culture 2 The Trailers
Our last podcast for the Cuts of Culture 2 series is another video, this time regrouping some trailers and teasers for ongoing and upcoming projects by artists who’ve been showcased in our podcast series. Included in there are trailers/teasers from Grazzhoppa’s DJ Big Band, Hentsix studios and Studio Rarekwai.
For more info on all these projects and more be sure to check their respective websites: Rarekwai.com, Hentsix.com and Big Band myspace.

CoC week 7

Week 7 of the Cuts of Culture 2 podcasts and we’re soon approaching the final shows. The videos are now finished however we’ve still got some audio treats left for you before we unveil the mix next week – this time we’re going all over the place with 3 tracks which were selected for the mix but didn’t make the final cut for various reasons and 2 scratch beats which were originally planned for use on the DVD menus and selected from the entries sent in during the competition we ran last year for a place on the DVD. Country wise we take in Japan, South Africa, Germany, Belgium and the USA.

Grazzhoppa – Rockin’ Raw
Next up is Grazzhoppa, the Belgium legend who’s responsible for the DJ Big Band project (we featured on week 4 of the podcasts) and a whole host of beats, cuts, tracks and featurings which would take waaaay to long to list here. Let’s just say the man’s put in the work, and he’s one of Europe’s hardest working. Grazz sent us this track as an exclusive for the compilation unfortunately we were unable to include it in the mix. This is classic Grazz material – head nod hip hop with tight cuts. Simple but effective. You may also recognise it as the background music we used on the trailer. For more info on the man like Grazzhoppa head over to his myspace and official site.

‘Cuts of Culture 2 – The Podcasts’: Week 4a

CoC week 4

For week 4 of the Cuts of Culture 2 Podcasts we bring you more exclusive video and audio, this time from France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Grazzhoppa’s DJ Big Band provides the video, with a promo of their live shows, while Netik provides the audio, with an exclusive track recorded specially for the Cuts of Culture 2 compilation.

DJ Grazzhoppa’s DJ Big Band – DJ Big Band video
Grazzhoppa’s DJ Big Band is a unique project, started and headed by Grazzhoppa in 2004. Grazzhoppa is one of Belgium’s finest and longest standing DJs, producers and tablist, part of the Real Tablit collective and label (alongside Lamont) and who has recorded and collaborated with countless artists from Europe and the US.
The project is simple, as implied by the name: regrouping DJs together to form a big band, in the spirit of the live funk and jazz bands. Since its inception the Big Band has taken on various forms settling in the last few years on its biggest and most challenging one yet: 120 fingers (12 DJs), 1 singer (Monique Harcum) and one Saxophonist (Fabrizio Cassol, who also acts as conductor). The DJs are split into four sections (3 DJs each) covering percussions, basslines, keys, guitars, horns, strings and vocal samples. The shows are based around songs created largely through improvisation and then fine tuned and arranged into compositions, covering a range of styles.
Grazzhoppa was able to bring the project to life with the help of a Belgium promoter, and since its beginning they have received help and support from various local and European organisations for funding and shows. The Big Band have played countless festivals, live shows and concerts in settings outside the turntablist and DJ world, spreading their musical vision to new crowds and warm receptions.
Alongside Grazzhoppa the Big Band regroups DJs from Belgium and the Netherlands (including the likes of Lamont, Vindictiv and Optimus from Real Tablist) as well as guest DJs CeeBrown from the US and Raskal from Belgium. The band has recently played a series of gigs with various live musicians and jazz groups.
For the full info and low down on the band’s history, tour info and current status, as well as plenty of audio and video of their many shows, head over to their myspace and own website.
The video is a promo video for the Big Band, showcasing all the performers as well as some short clips from recent live shows. Look out for more from Grazzhoppa solo, in week 7 of the podcasts.
The file is 55mb, .m4v format – best viewed in Quicktime and on iTunes and iPods.
