RBMA – Wandering Feet podcasts

It’s not often we mention another podcast round these parts, but I’ve been sent some info regarding a set of podcasts linked to the Reb Bull Music Academy (RBMA) which are definitely of interest.

Called ‘Wandering Feet’, the podcasts have been put together to celebrate ten years of RBMA (already? damn that went quick) and give a bit more of an insight into what goes on at the Academy as well as give previous participants and tutors the chance to drop some advice and share some insight.

For those who don’t know (and if you don’t you must have been underneath a rock for the last few years) the RBMA is a yearly event that basically invites applications from budding musicians, producers, singers and DJs worldwide to come and spend two weeks with artists from all fields of music and learn from them, talk to them and collaborate. Basically it’s a once in a lifetime chance for many to hone their craft, meet fellow minded people, connect and learn from some of the best in the world. It’s a great concept, and it’s also great to see how the academy has gone from strength to strength and keeps going ten years on. Previous participants have gone to become famous to say the least (most recently Flying Lotus and Hudson Mohawke).

So anyways, these podcasts are as I said a bit of an insight into the whole RBMA experience. And here’s a bit more detail from the press release:

Music journalist, and Red Bull Music Academy team member, Emma Warren, gives us the indispensable insiders’ guide to all things RBMA related in the Wandering Feet podcast. Getting deep inside the London Workshop Session, she speaks to past participants Hudson Mohawke and Flying Lotus, hears from Academy Lecturers –DMZ’s Mala and Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet – and pokes her nose into some heavy live Master Classes. Witness Danny Breaks teaching MPC skills, Beni G smashing Serrato and Wookie perfecting the art of the remix. As if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also hear Ethio-Jazz legend Mulatu Astatke in conversation with Gilles Peterson and hear all about his groundbreaking collaboration with Now Again’s Heliocentrics.

You can grab the first 3 podcasts in the series by clicking on this feed. As it stands they are waiting to find out if they will do more regular episodes, but in the meantime these three provide some great info, interviews and insight for anyone with a remote interest in music and production.
