‘Cuts of Culture 2 - The Podcasts’: Week 2b

Rolling into week 2 we bring you fresh new music and live action from Germany and the USA. Noisy Stylus start things off with a video of their 2006 Musikmesse live showcase, and then Dq (Animal Crackers/Glue) takes us on a little musical trip with an exclusive track made especially for the compilation.
Dq - Strike Part 1
The audio side of things this week is being taken care of by Dq, member of the Animal Crackers crew and Glue. Dq isn’t necessarily a name you’ll be familiar with, however there’s no doubting the man’s talents. Whether he’s producing, DJing or being a scratch nerd Dq shows a variety in his skills and music that is refreshing. We asked him to get involved with CoC 2 after hearing his excellent ‘Edge On Life’ track, which was released on Glue’s last EP. After hearing it back in 05, we knew we had to get him on this. And he delivered with ‘Strike Part 1′ a beautiful instrumental number, short but to the point.
To find out more about the man check the following links and catch him on the road or on a release near you. More info at myspace, theanimalcrackers.com and gluemakesmusic.com.

Noisy Stylus - Live at Musikmesse 2006
This video was filmed (by none other than the man like Lamont) at Musikmesse 2006, Germany and Europe’s main DJ gear show. As far as I know this is Noisy Stylus’ last showcase and likely to be the last one in a while as the various members of the crew have all moved on to new projects and horizons.
The showcase itself features a selection of tracks from the crew’s debut album ‘Table Manners’ performed live. If you’ve never heard the album than this is a perfect introduction, and if you have then this is the chance to see the album tracks performed live, complete with variations and changes from the studio versions. Noisy Stylus also feature on the Cuts of Culture 2 compilation mix.
The album is still available on 2xLP and CD from all good record shps. For more info on the crew and their multitude of past and present projects head over to noisystylus.com. And look out for the week 9 podcasts which will feature some very exclusive Noisy Stylus related downloads.
The file is 80mb, .m4v video format - best viewed in Quicktime and on iTunes and iPods.

We kick off the Cuts of Culture 2 Podcasts with an exclusive track from L.A based producer, and DJ, Exile featuring DJ Day.
Exile (of Emanon) & DJ Day - A Day In Exile parts 1 & 2
This exclusive tracks comes from the archives of Exile, the producer for rap group Emanon who has garnered a name for himself in recent years as one of the nicest beat makers to come out of the L.A underground in a long time. His recent solo album, ‘Dirty Science’, has received justified, worthy praise for its eclectic, headnodding production and features the likes of Slum Village, M.E.D, Oh No, Aloe Blacc and many more. Exile’s previous releases include an appearance on the excellent Ghostface Killa ‘Milk Em’ remixes 12″ as well as S.I.C compilations, Emanon albums and more.
This track was dug up by Exile and given to us as in his own words ‘it was made around 2002, but it needs to be heard now more than ever’. And when you’ll hear it you’ll no doubt understand why. Beat by Exile, cuts by DJ Day and Exile.
If you like what you hear and want to hear more head over to djexile.com and go buy the LP, ‘Dirty Science’.

Grandeurs of Delusion album out now
July 6, 2007 by Laurent

Since the release of their first 7″ last year, the excellent Bad Karma b/w Strontium Sleazewave, Manipulate and his Nause Corps label have stayed firmly in our favourites. And so it’s good to hear that his new project, Grandeurs of Delusion, is finally available.
‘A Stale Breath of Fresh Ahhh’ is the first album from the Delusions of Grandeur collective which regroups Manipulate, Naive Ted and one of TTR’s long time favourite producer and scratcher Square One. The album also features guest spots from NozL, Lorn and IDO and some very fresh artwork.
As for what you can expect: electronic madness blended with influences from across the board, the whole drenched with cuts and edits that will leave you wondering what the hell just happened. Over 17 tracks the G.O.D guys leave you guessing and hit you harder than a ton of bricks.
“Agile and extraordinary rhythms…. Their sinister and intoxicating textures stopped me in my tracks..” - Mary Anne Hobbs (BBC RADIO 1)
It’s nice to finally hear more from the Nause Corps camp, not least because their take on the sound is so refreshing and exciting at times. And seeing as they’re promising more to come we for one can’t wait.
The album is available on CD for 10 pounds and mp3 download for 7 pounds from nausecorps.com as well as from a few other places. If you’re states side you might want to hit up Lorn on his myspace as he’s also carrying some copies.
Look out for some tracks from the album in upcoming shows and some live dates in the near future too.
