Le Jad – Nervous Shock

French producer Le Jad made his ‘debut’ in the scratch/DJ community last year with his first break record, ‘Doll’s Break’ co-produced and arranged with Or D’Oeuvre, a french tablist and battle DJ. The record itself wasn’t anything revolutionary or amazing, however it contained some banging beats and was overall an ‘above standard’ break record, refreshing amongst the sea of sameness you hear when it comes to battle breaks.
Hell it was so refreshing that Jad went on to co-produce Netik’s winning 2006 DMC sets (France and World) – a nice addition to any calling card. He also worked closely with Troubl, who finished second at DMC World Supremacy, and continues to work with Or D’Oeuvre. If anything Jad is likely to be remembered for bringing a refreshing idea and approach to battling – that of co-producing sets to ensure that everything you hear is actually the DJ’s own (or Jad’s). No more using the same tired breaks, just get your sets produced or co-produce them, press the records et voila, a bit of fresh air and difference brought to the battle scene.
Anyways moving on, Le Jad is now releasing his second break record, ‘Nervous Shock’, this time with some help from Ortofon and Hand-Control in France – an interesting partnership to say the least. The new record offers more of Jad’s twisted take on electronic music – kinda like someone taking the best (or worst depending on where you stand) of techno, jungle and hardcore and blending it to make it more turntablist friendly. On offer are beats, scratch sentences, drum sequences and skip proofs containing rave synths, techno drums (some bordering on the Thunderdome, which again might leave some people a little perplex) and some more classic sounds. The whole thing has been arranged and sequenced by Jad and so while it may sound a bit deja vu, you can rest assured it’s as fresh as it can get.
You can get a taste of what’s on offer at the following link http://www.hand-control.com/lejad/indexenglish.htm, just click on the Flash player and check the press release and explanations from Jad.
Our copy is somewhere in the post so we’ve not had time to check it properly yet, but seeing as Jad’s ‘Doll’s Break’ was one of our favourite records of 2005 it’s fair to say that this one is likely to rank quite highly.
The record should be out and available in all good record stores and online shops in the next month. More info at hand-control.com and ortofon.com.
