Win 5 copies of Concrete or Abstract

We’ve got 5 copies of DJ Coshmar’s ‘Concrete or Abstract’ break and instrumental record to give away.
You may remember Coshmar, who we featured a while back on the site (back when we were rocking the old school look and site). Back then we announced he was working on the ‘Concrete or Abstract’ project which will be his second solo LP featuring a host of French MCs over his own scratch built compositions.
Ahead of the release of the album in late 06, ‘Concrete or Abstract’ was released on vinyl, regrouping 5 instrumentals from the LP alongside a bunch of samples and sentences for you to practice with.
We hooked up with Coshmar over the recent PLASA/DMC/Gong Battle weekend and he was kind enough to give us 5 copies to give away. Read on for the full competition details.

For those of you in France you can also check a new magazine focused on DJ and turntablist culture entitled Star Wax, which was started and is edited by Coshmar. A laudable effort, especially considering how harsh publishing can be and how niche the turntablist scene is at the best of times in recent years. Still that doesn’t seem to have stopped Coshmar who debuted Star Wax earlier this year with features on BNN and DJ Revolution and a CD with over 10 Dj/tablist tracks. The next issue, number 2 will be out in the next two months and you can find more on the magazine and its distribution on www.compos-it.net.
Finally (Coshmar’s been a very busy man)he is also involved with Stream Box, a hip hop tv show broadcast on French satellite TV and on the net at www.streambox-tv.com, where you can also check previous shows.
Be sure to check Coshmar’s website for more on the man and his many projects. And in the meantime check the competition details to get your hands on a copy of the new vinyl.
Concrete or Abstract competition
The 5 copies of Concrete or Abstract will be handed out as follows: 2 sets of 2 copies each and one set of 1 copy. So that means 3 winners, with the 2 winners of the double pack behind decided at random from the 3 winners. To be in with a chance all you’ve got to do is reply to the following question by 20th October:
Which French DJ won the 2006 DMC World Championships title in London last month?
Send in your answers to laurent at turntableradio . com (complete the address yourself as I want to avoid receiving more spam than I already do) by the 20th of October with your address and details. Winners will be picked at random from the correct answers and contacted within 3 days of the deadline.
Good luck and look out for tracks from Coshmar’s album on forthcoming Turntable Radio podcasts.

The second volume of the ‘Cuts of Culture’ compilation is now being finished and will be landing in shops worldwide in early 07.
Following on from the successful first volume released last year (now sold out but promos of which are still available from the EB website), volume 2 goes bigger and better with a mix CD featuring fresh talent from around the world and a DVD packed with exclusive videos and bonus content. All the bonus content will be accessible from your computer.
Unlike the first volume there will not be a promo run this time round, meaning that you’ll have to wait a few months before being able to get your hands on it. The production of the DVD had to be delayed, however it’s now being finished and we will post definite retail dates as soon as we can.
In the meantime you will be able to check out some tracks from the compilation in upcoming Turntable Radio podcasts (starting with July’s one which featured DJ Happee’s contribution) and we’ll also be giving away some of the exclusive promo CD copies which were being handed out during the PLASA and DMC weekend last week. These copies feature a short, 20 minutes version of the mix and some promotional videos – perfect to give you a taster of what’s in store.
Full tracklisting and details of the CD and DVD are below – as you can see this time around the mix and DVD will feature even more worldwide talent from Japan to South Africa, Eastern Europe to the US West Coast. Exclusives come from D-Styles, ieMERG, Phonomorphia, Netik, DJ Happee, Excess, Bungalow Zen and more. This time round we’ve got even more quality music with producers including Trash Weston (The Orb), Bichi (Blue Foundation), Exile (Emanon), Evil Ed and Bayaka all appearing on exclusive collaboration tracks.
Stay tuned for more info, snippets and full details.

C-Mon & Kypski’s new album – Where the Wild Things Are

Finally after just over 2 years the Dutch duo C-Mon & Kypski are releasing their 3rd album, ‘Where The Wild Things Are’. The group, composed of C-Mon & Kypski on samplers and turntables and Daniel & Jori on keys and bass, finished the album earlier on this year and are about to release the first single, ‘Bumpy Road’, next month ahead of the full release which will hit shops by the 20th of October.
Alongside C&K’s trademark blend of hip hop, tablism and just plain dope instrumentation that seems to take them wherever the hell they feel like going, the new album also features vocal and musical talents from Sadat X, Pete Philly, Kain The Poet, Benjamin Herman, Voicst and The Amsterdam Klezmer Band. You can hear the single and other tracks from the LP on their myspace.com page and keep your eyes on their website, as well as on here, for more info regarding the release as well as some more audio previews.
And while you’re waiting, peep the footage below of the band live in Amsterdam last year performing the excellent ‘Shitty Bum’ track from their sophomore album, ‘Static Traveller’. This video will be appearing on the forthcoming Cuts of Culture 2 DVD in high quality and with tons of other videos and footage! And don’t forget to check out the Spin Science interview with the duo, conducted shortly before the release of their second LP, if you aren’t familiar with them yet.
