Lamont rocks Ableton Live the proper way

Since its first version Ableton Live has come a long way, as a musical tool and software of choice for many, many artists – including DJs, producers and tablists. One of the people who’s been messing around with it for a while is Lamont, from Real Tablist and DJ Big Band, and he’s now put up a dope video of him using the program alongside his turntables and the new Rodec Scratchbox to knock out a lovely little set. Thanks to the effects inserts of the mixer he’s able to use Ableton as a drum machine, loop station and fx unit.
Check the video on Youtube.com here or stream it from below.
And be sure to look out for Lamont’s next release, a joint EP with 2tall entitled ‘Senses Overloaded’ which will be out on Real Tablist in the autumn. You can hear some tracks from the EP on previous and future podcasts. For more info on the man himself be sure to hit up the Real Tablist site.

We got more videos from Tayone over in Italy – this time from 2 new live projects of his.
The first one is from I Riffs, which features Tayone on turntables, Max Dall’Omo on drums and Bruno Briscik on Electric Cello. The footage in question was taken from a live open mic event in Bologna last year, and features guest DJ Excess from Styluswars in the US. You can also download the video from spinscience.org.uk.
The second video is from another live project called Gli Originali and features Tayone and Franco Micalizi. You can check more info on that over at www.bgsteam.splinder.com.
More footage from the I Riffs gig in Bologna will be available on the upcoming ‘Cuts of Culture’ vol 2 CD/DVD compilation, and you can look out for an album by Bungalow Zen very soon, which is another project regrouping Tayone, Skizo and Lorenzo Feliciati on bass and keys. A track from the new album will be on the forthcoming TTR podcast.
So as you can tell the boy’s been more than busy. For more info hit up djtayone.com and t-turn.com. Massive thanks to Crs, Tay and Excess for letting us broadcast the footage. Enjoy!

Competition: win a spot on Cuts of Culture vol2 and a copy of ‘Peaceful Warrior’

The second volume of the Eclectic Breaks and Turntable Radio compilation, Cuts of Culture, is being prepared and to celebrate its forthcoming release we’ve got a competition for all the beatmakers and musicians out there to give you the chance to appear on the DVD of the compilation as well as bag a copy of 2tall’s recent ‘Peaceful Warrior’ record.
The deal is simple: Cuts of Culture vol 2 will feature a DVD alongside the mix CD and we’re looking for beats/instrumental tracks to use as background music for the DVD menus. So we’re asking people to send in their contributions to win the chance to be featured on the DVD.
Below are the full details of the competition, which ends on the 23rd of June 2006.
As for Cuts of Culture vol 2 itself, it’ll follow the same format as the first one, with a mix CD by 2tall featuring tracks from tablists, DJs and producers around the world. Alongside that will be a DVD featuring a variety of worldwide footage – live shows, freestyles and more. We’ll be dropping more info on all this in the summer, and trust us this one is going to be bigger and better than the first one, but in the meantime here’s your chance to be a part of it!
Competition details:
- Beat/instrumental track must be free from copyrighted samples and scratches
- 1 submission per person
- Judges decision is final
- Beat/track must be submitted as a .mp3 (at least 96kbps or more) or .wav. The winning beat/track will have to be submitted to us as a high quality .wav if it hasn’t already. Participants are responsible for submitting the track to us either by email, ftp or download link (yousendit.com etc…). If sending by email attachment can’t exceed 10mb
- All entries to be emailed before the deadline to laurent AT spinscience.org.uk with the beat/track as either an attachment (no larger than 10mb) or a link for download (filesize can be anything you want)
- Deadline is 23rd June midnight, GMT. Any emails, links etc… received after that will not be valid
- Any submission that doesn’t match one of these criterias will be disqualified
Things to bear in mind:
- The beat/track is to be used for a DVD menu so don’t submit stuff which takes 5 minutes to build up. Loops are fine, though they should be at least one minute long
- Headnodding factor, musicality etc… are what we’re looking for, to give people something to nod to while flipping through the menus
Prize details:
Out of the received entries we will choose 2 winners. Each winner will receive the following:
- Use of the beat/track on the Cuts of Culture 2 DVD menu with full credits
- 1 copy of 2tall’s ‘Peaceful Warrior’ scratch record and 1 copy of the finished compilation (CD and DVD)
- Use of the beat on future Turntable Radio shows with full credits
That’s it for more info on the compilation, ‘Peacefull Warrior’ record and everything else check the links below.
If you know someone who’d be interested in this pass the link along and good luck to everyone!
