Eclectic Breaks Scratch Series vol 1 now out – Peaceful Warrior by 2tall

This one nearly passed us by even though we’ve all been waiting for it for quite a while. Eclectic Breaks’ Scratch Series takes off this month with the first volume courtesy of 2tall, who doesn’t need any more introduction we think.
Entitled ‘Peaceful Warrior’, this is 2tall’s first break record and sees the man deliver a tasty selection of beats for practice and battle alongside a wide selection of samples, arranged in various sentences, ideal for home or live use, production, cutting, etc…
You can check some short samples in Real Media format here: Side A + Sibe B.

The record is out now in all good online shops, and incoming in all good physical stores this week. Japan had the exclusivity for the last few weeks, so if you’re out there the records should already be everywhere. Distribution is handled by Amalgam US and is worldwide. So if you can’t find it at your local record pusher ask for it. Heads in the UK and Europe can head over to Juno which has copies in. Turntable Lab should also have some shortly.

And hot on the heels of the ‘Peaceful Warrior’ record is the second volume in the series, this time handled by Daredevil and entitled ‘Break Fluid’. This one follows the same concept as 2tall’s, with a nice selection of beats, scratch and juggling sentences for practice, live use, battling etc… If you heard Daredevil’s track from the Cuts of Culture compilation, then you’ll know what to expect in part as that track was made using the record.

For more info on all this and the guys themselves head over to Eclecticbreaks.com, dj2tall.com and Daredevil’s myspace.

Oh and look out for a competition in the coming weeks on Spin Science to win copies of ‘Peaceful Warrior’.

More video goodness from the DJs for Life event which took place in Birmingham last year. This is the last video from the set of videos already available at spinscience.org.uk. It’s taken from Tigerstyle’s showcase which features new variations on his 3 decks and CD routine – a must see for anyone who’s still not heard the man in action. This video as well as all other DJs for Life ones are available for download now on Spin Science (see link above).
Check djtigerstyle.com for more info, as well as details of upcoming releases (which include a break record on I-Emerge’s label and an album – both should be out by the summer). Also check our recent podcasts for some exclusive new tracks from the man.

Competition time! Win some records from I-Emerge and Dj Void

Right I’ve been slack – this competition should have happened a while back, but with the change of site, podcast servers etc… it kinda got lost in my to do list… Luckily things aren’t so bad that I’ve had to sell the records for food! (joke by the way in case anyone thinks we do shit like this, he he)

So up for grabs this month are 2 copies of I-Emerge’s excellent ‘Audiocide’ break record, recently released on his newly minted label, The Inside. Regular readers will remember our mention of this release late last year – essentially this new record contains a lot of the samples, beats and sentences which Merge used to obtain his recent, and extensive, list of titles. So it makes for good battle fodder, as well as a really decent practice and production tool. Alongside the 2 copies of ‘Audiocide’ we’ve also got 2 copies of DJ Void’s recent 12″ ‘Geto Bass b/w Distress Signal’ which was recently released on the All Skratch label. You can find more info and samples about this record right here.

To get your hands on these prizes all you’ve got to do is email the answer to the following question to
laurentNOSPAM@NOSPAMturntableradio.com (remove the NOSPAM from the address before emailing):
In which country do both I-Emerge and DJ Void reside?

The competition closes at midnight GMT on the 12th of May (about a month away from now). 2 winners will be picked from the correct answers at random and both will receive a copy of each record.

For more information on I-Emerge and DJ Void check the following links, and look out for the new podcast which will feature the ‘Geto Bass’ track as well as new music from the likes of Netik, Third Sight, 2tall, Lamont, Troubl, Taim and more.

Comedy skratch vid gets major attention…

Well, here’s one to spark debate (taken from Digital Music News):

Viral Video Remix Grabs Major Label Attention

Quick, viral hits on the internet are continuing to grab the attention of big media companies. Most recently, DJ Keltech, an amateur DJ who’s real name is “Lloyd,” scored a hit with a pair of home-made scratching videos. Keltech dressed up for the mixes, posing as Darth Vader in one and a War of the Worlds alien in the other. The videos, posted on YouTube competitor StupidVideos.com, soon attracted over 400,000 viewers.

One of the eventual viewers was Jeff Wayne, the legendary producer of the hit musical inspired by War of the Worlds. “Mr. Wayne had seen the video of me using his record to scratch over dressed as an alien and asked me if I would remix the track for the new official War of the Worlds remix album,” said Keltech. “I was blown away by this news.” The Sony BMG release, called War of the Worlds Remixes ulladubulla, is slated for global release on April 17th. While stories like these tend to be over-simplified and romanticized, more music superstars are likely to come from new formats over the next few years. The Keltech story comes on the heels of another internet video explosion involving Sandi Thom, who inked a recording deal with RCA Records Group/Sony BMG in the UK following an incredibly successful webcast concert series.

Hmmm… thoughts anyone?
